Sad News: Bryan Rust’s severe injury may end his career

With 10 goals and 10 assists for a total of 20 points in 22 games this year, Rust has had a fantastic comeback season. The 31-year-old skater with the Penguins is ranked fifth. With his 0.83 5v5 goals per 60 minutes ranking 39th in the league among forwards with at least 3000 minutes of ice time, he has been one of the league’s more productive goal scorers in recent seasons.

Rust was selected by the Penguins with the third-round, 80th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut in the 2014–15 season and has played his whole 10-season career with the Pens. With the Penguins, he won back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships in 2016 and 2017. He signed a six-year contract with a $5.125 million budget hit with the Penguins in the 2022 summer, and he is now in the second year of that deal.

Chad Ruhwedel, a defenseman, has been activated from the injured reserve, the Penguins have announced in the meanwhile. Due to a lower-body injury he received against the Vegas Golden Knights, Ruhwedel was considered week-to-week. In fifteen games this season, the 33-year-old has one point.

The Penguins will play the Minnesota Wild on Monday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday after their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight. Pittsburgh has a 13-12-3 record, 29 points through 28 games, and is presently ranked eighth in the Metropolitan Division.
