The Penn State Nitanny Lions enjoyed a conventional Big Ten season. While they were one of the greatest teams in the country, they were unable to defeat Ohio State or Michigan in order to qualify for the College Football Playoff. The programme has hired a new defensive coordinator after losing their previous one. Former Indiana head coach Tom Allen is likely to become the Nittany Lions’ new defensive coordinator, according to reports.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the programme has focused in on Allen, and while the details are still being worked out, he is expected to sign a deal in the coming days. Allen was sacked this offseason after failing to consistently improve the Indiana Hoosiers over his seven seasons as head coach. Allen adds 30 years of coaching expertise to Penn State and could aid James Franklin’s bid to dethrone the Big Ten’s elite teams.

This is a fantastic hire in my opinion for several reasons. Allen is well-versed with the Big Ten. He has had to prepare for these teams before, so he feels at ease. Allen’s experience will be tremendously beneficial as well. Penn State is under pressure to perform better in the conference next year. It’s been the same tale for the previous three years. A promising season wrecked by defeats to top-tier opponents. They want to rewrite the story.
