Tuesday night, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 11–7 thanks to two home runs in two at-bats by Andy Ibáñez, who also drove in four runs. Ryan Vilade, making his MLB debut, had his first major league hit and three RBIs.

After hitting a three-run home run in the second inning, Ibáñez hit his first home run off of Logan Allen’s third pitch of the contest. Afterwards, he finished the game 4 for 4 with a walk and four runs scored after hitting a double in the eighth inning.

After being called up from Triple-A Toledo earlier in the day, Vilade singled off Pedro Avila in the third inning to drive in two runs. He then added another RBI single in the seventh to put the Tigers ahead 9–7.

Even though Vilade was left off of the opening-day roster, he maintained his composure and kept improving in the lower leagues. His outstanding first performance was the result of his perseverance.
