Although Derrick Henry is aware that this Sunday’s game at Nissan Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars might be his last in a Tennessee Titans uniform, he will approach it like any other.

Through the team’s official website, Henry stated on Thursday, “There will definitely be a moment, last game of the season, I’ll be a free agent after this year, and I’ve been here eight years,” “I just want to say thank you to everyone who comes, and I know the fans will be there. We’re hoping to have a successful season finale.”

In terms of rushing touchdowns (89) and scrimmage touchdowns (92) Henry leads the Titans all-time. Before Sunday’s game, he also holds the franchise record for yards per carry average (4.6). With 9,349 rushing yards, he is second only to Eddie George in Tennessee’s scoring rankings.

This offseason, Henry becomes a free agent. The Titans may decide to let Tyjae Spears take the starting position in 2024 instead of sticking with the bulldozing back.

“Any player would love to play for an organisation, finish out their career as long as they can,” stated Henry. However, I am aware that there is a commercial aspect and that these kinds of things occur. We’ll just have to wait and watch how the offseason plays out.”

Thursday marked Henry’s 30th birthday. He will have an interesting free-agent market. He is a well-known athlete with the ability to lead an attack. He has a tonne of tread on his tyres, having carried the ball more than 300 times in three of the previous five seasons, but he won’t fit into every system. Henry’s career-low yards per carry average (3.9) came in 2023 when he found it difficult to find openings behind an offensive line that was prone to leaks.

Despite logging 1,014 yards and 11 touchdowns, the running back was recognised for his fourth Pro Bowl, despite a challenging season.

“Sometimes you need a year like this to be able to grow, to be able to learn, to be able to reflect,” said Henry. “After this season ends, I will most definitely do that. If I wasn’t already fueled, I am now unquestionably more energised and ravenous.
