Warren Burrell found a new home for his final season of eligibility very quickly. The seasoned cornerback declared his commitment to Georgia Tech for the 2024 football season on Sunday night.
Burrell spent five seasons with the Volunteers and was the first player from Tennessee to declare his intention to use the transfer portal. He’s going back home to Georgia to play for the Yellow Jackets in his final season of eligibility.
When the former three-star prospect signed with Tennessee in 2019, Jeremy Pruitt started him as a true freshman. He appeared in nine games overall, starting the first four of the season. In 2020, he would participate in eight games. Burrell persevered through a coaching change in 2021, starting 12 games. He received credit for defending seven passes.
Burrell played in the first two games of the 2022 season before suffering an injury. He was unable to resume his regular role, but he was able to accept a medical redshirt. Despite several injuries to his secondary in2023, he played only occasionally.
To be honest, both parties needed a fresh start. While Burrell can hopefully get more playing time down in Atlanta, Tennessee has younger players ready to step in and take over at the position.
