Grading every notable decision of Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes' career - Pride Of Detroit

Detroit Lions Brad Holmes Sadly Kicks The Bucket @44 After being the laughingstock of the league for the last few seasons, the long-moribund franchise suddenly turned into one of the most entertaining and competitive teams in the league last season.

As a rookie, Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs shown the explosiveness and elusiveness in the open field that made general manager Brad Holmes’ decision to select him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft understandable.

Gibbs finished his rookie season sharing time in the backfield with seasoned David Montgomery, running for 945 yards and 10 touchdowns at an astounding average of 5.2 yards per carry.

However, after he found that sweet spot, you kind of saw it in the Ravens game—which, regrettably, we didn’t attend very well—but at that point, you began to see hints of what might be coming. The Raiders game, of course, was the one where I think everyone saw the breakout. In my opinion, he still has a lot to give in the passing game, so you’ll probably see an increase there as well.

With so much youth and explosiveness strewn throughout Holmes’ roster, it seems sense that the Lions are among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. One important element of that puzzle is Gibbs.
