The 2022 Texas A&M recruiting class was the highest-rated prospect class in the history of the rankings. The head coach who had recruited that group of gifted prospects was sacked two years after they signed their national letters of intent, and many of those elite players went through the transfer portal. One of those names is wide receiver Evan Stewart, who proved to be one of the nation’s best pass catchers in high school and lived up to the hype throughout his two seasons with the Aggies.
In eight games during 2023, Stewart caught 38 passes for 514 yards and four touchdowns. After surpassing 600 yards on 53 receptions in 2022, he was named a Freshman All-American. Based on 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, he is the best available player in the transfer portal, and the Vols are already expressing interest.
Although there are a lot of moving parts, Stewart’s visit schedule will soon reveal which clubs are leading the way. Tennessee intends to bring him to campus in the first part of January in order to try their hand at adding another significant receiver to the portal. They’ve already added Holden Staes of Notre Dame, the top tight end in the transfer portal, and Chris Brazzell of Tulane, a wide receiver and 2023 Freshman All-American.
