Despite midseason accusations related to a sign-stealing incident that almost brought the Michigan football programme to its knees, the team is having a great season. In addition to going undefeated throughout the regular season, the Michigan football team defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Big Ten Championship and qualified for the College Football Playoffs for the third straight year. Some of their players are still trying to leave the team, though. Freshman cornerback Cameron Calhoun will use the transfer portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.

Joey Velazquez, a linebacker, also used the transfer portal on Thursday. Valazquez played for the Wolverines for four years, recording seven tackles. Leon Franklin and CJ Stokes, two more running backs, left Michigan via the transfer portal; however, offensive lineman Josh Priebe from Northwestern and linebacker Jaishawn Barham from Maryland were added.

According to 247Sports, Cameron Calhoun is a four-star recruit who joined the Wolverines this season. Allen Trieu, a national recruiting analyst, gave the Winton Woods product excellent marks. Calhoun was praised by the scouting analyst for his stature and ability to force turnovers. The Ohio native was also predicted by Trieu to start for the Power Five.

After just one season, Calhoun will depart from Ann Arbour. The Winton Woods career interceptions leader made two appearances but did not record any stats.

In the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs, the Wolverines will play the Alabama Crimson Tide, who have only lost once. In the SEC Championship, Alabama overcame the previously unbeaten Georgia Bulldogs to move up to the fourth-highest ranking slot in college football, above of both the undefeated Florida State Seminoles and them. Since the CFP’s establishment in 2014, the Crimson Tide have won three championships.
Although Michigan has qualified for the College Football Playoffs the last three seasons, a victory over Alabama on New Year’s Day would be their first under the new structure. When Charles Woodson earned the Heisman Trophy and Lloyd Carr was the head coach, the Wolverines last won the National Championship in 1997.
