The Detroit Lions, in advance of their road game against the Dallas Cowboys, announced a flurry of roster changes.

The organization formally declared that linebacker Trevor Nowaske and defensive back Chase Lucas had been waived after practice on Thursday.

Detroit now has one available roster place as a result.

There are a ton of choices available to Detroit’s front staff to fill the open roster spot.

Michael Badgley, the kicker, may be added to the active roster, or the team could choose to sign an experienced defender.

There is still one chance for Badgley and veteran linebacker Bruce Irvin to be promoted. In the game against the Cowboys, the team might also start veteran defensive lineman Tyson Alualu.

This weekend, Detroit is expected to reveal its practice squad selections and may also officially declare their choice for the last roster position.

Arizona State product Lucas, a defender in his second year, has appeared in 18 games for the Lions overall, including 12 this year. He hasn’t played any defensive snaps this season and has mostly been a special team player.

If Lucas clears waivers, the Lions intend to add him to their practice squad, according NFL Network.

The young defensive back was originally waived during the preseason, but following Gardner-Johnson’s injury, he was added off the practice squad to the active roster.

Lucas participated in six games in the previous season after being selected by the team in the seventh round in 2022. This season, he has played 230 special teams snaps and recorded three special teams tackles.
