This offseason, the Boston Red Sox will need to make some important decisions.
This summer, Boston has already added one fascinating player: Tyler O’Neill, an outfielder who previously played for the St. Louis Cardinals. The Red Sox have plenty of other tasks ahead of them. Although Boston was thought to be strong in the outfield, there have been some whispers that the team may trade some of its regulars to make room for starting pitchers.
Although that looks like a good course of action, the Red Sox would need to make further acquisitions if they were to deal some of their outfield players. Boston needs to bolster its second base lineup as well. The Red Sox had trouble up the middle in the previous season, and they have been connected to a number of infielders to deal with the problem.
The young utility guy for the Chicago Cubs, Christopher Morel, has emerged as a potentially interesting trade candidate who could aid the team in both the outfield and second base, according to Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report.
“The Cubs arguably shouldn’t want to trade Christopher Morel,” said Rymer. “He’s a power supply in a lineup that doesn’t have a tonne of it, as well as a versatile defender whose club control runs through 2028…”In 136 games between the minors and majors this season, Morel, 24, hit 37 home runs. If he had only hit 26 in 107 major league games, he would have overtaken José Ramírez (24) in terms of Cleveland’s franchise total. Miami Marlins and the Boston Red Sox are other fits.
The fact that Morel has been brought up in trade rumours is intriguing, even though it doesn’t imply the Red Sox will go out and sign him. Not until 2029 will he be eligible for free agency at the age of just 24. In just 107 games the previous season, he slashed.247/.313/.508, drove in 70 runs, and hit 26 home runs.
He played second base, shortstop, third base, left field, centre field, and right field, among other positions on the diamond. Morel might be a player to keep an eye on if the Red Sox are able to pull off a major trade.
