5 Things To Know About The New Lions Signee Christian Mahogany

The Detroit Lions choose Boston College guard Christian Mahogany with the 210th overall selection to round up their 2024 NFL Draft. Many people applauded the selection because some believed the player was a top-100 prospect deserving of a third- or fourth-round selection.

This is the last installment of our “Five things to know about…” series, so let’s get to know Mahogany a little better.

Mahogany was ranked as high as number-93 on Arif Hasan’s consensus big board, as previously mentioned. When he was revealed to be still available in the sixth round, Lions general manager Brad Holmes was astounded.

“I was taken aback. At that moment, I didn’t think he would still be there, said Holmes.

The widespread opinion seems to point to Mahogany’s health, even if the Lions general manager did not elaborate on why he believed the player dropped.

Here is offensive line guru Brandon Thorn (who graded in the third round on Mahogany) discussing his unanticipated decline on his Trench Warfare podcast:

“I wasn’t really tuned into too much, but from what I’ve heard, he has some medical issues that are concerning,” Thorn remarked.

Considering this Mahogany’s tape, the moniker is quite fitting. When the play is being played on the other end of the field, Mahogany is the kind of player who will run a defender ten yards past the sideline. Using his block, he will force the player into the turf. Not only will he obstruct, but he will also threaten.
