Domingo Germán, a free agent who was formerly the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, is apparently being pursued by several organisations in an effort to return to Major League Baseball.

As to a report by Mark W. Sanchez of The New York Post on Wednesday night, Germán is now negotiating a deal with four organisations, including the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles. Germán’s list of suitors also includes the New York Mets.

Germán willingly checked himself into an inpatient alcohol misuse treatment facility, and as a result, was put on the restricted list in August. Germán was ultimately shut down by New York for the remainder of the season.

After being cut from the Yankees’ 40-man roster in November, Germán decided to pursue free agency.

Before his season was cut short, the 31-year-old right-hander had a 5-7 record, 4.56 ERA, 1.077 WHIP, and 0.7 WAR.

In 2017, Germán made his Major League Baseball debut. By 2018, he was a part-time member of the Yankees starting rotation. The Dominican Republic righty finished 18-4 in 2019, but a probe into domestic abuse put him on administrative leave in September.

Germán was suspended by the league for the entirety of the 2020 season, and he played in the minor levels for a portion of 2021 while he recovered.

Right shoulder impingement syndrome put Germán on the 60-day disabled list at the beginning of 2022, postponing his season debut until late July. Germán finished the season with a career-low 3.61 ERA and 1.161 WHIP despite being 2-5.

On June 22, Germán had his poorest start of the year after a wild start to 2023 that included a 10-game ban for using an illegal foreign substance on the pitch. In 3.1 innings of work, he gave up eight earned runs and ten total runs. Germán pitched the 24th perfect game in MLB history six days later.

After becoming involved in an altercation in the Yankees’ clubhouse a little more than a month later, Germán left the organisation to receive medical attention.

Throughout his career, Germán is 31-28 with a 4.41 ERA, 1.177 WHIP, 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings, and 4.6 WAR.

After finishing the necessary steps in his programme for alcohol misuse treatment, Germán is attempting to return to his major.

After acquiring Cuban right-hander Yariel Rodríguez last week, the Blue Jays added a lot of starting pitching depth, especially with top prospect Ricky Tiedemann perhaps making his Major League debut in 2024 and former All-Star Alex Manoah attempting to recover. In contrast, the Mets have added three starting pitchers in this offseason alone.

With five starting pitchers under contract—some of whom are veterans and others were once considered top prospects—many analysts had predicted that Baltimore would add a top arm this offseason.

Five players were acquired by the San Diego Padres from the New York Yankees in exchange for Juan Soto and Trent Grisham in December.

Among those guys was starting pitcher Michael King, who feels the Padres came out on top.
