Named “KB” after his birthdate of January 4, 1992, Kristopher Lee Bryant is an American professional baseball player who plays outfield and third base for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was formerly a player for the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball. Bryant played baseball for the University of San Diego’s Toreros while he was a student before turning pro.

Bryant was the standout of Bonanza High School’s baseball team. He was an All-American in college in both 2012 and 2013, and in 2013 he was awarded the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy. After being chosen by the Cubs with the second overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft, he rose to prominence as one of the game’s best prospects, taking home the 2014 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year Award as well as the USA Today Minor League Player of the Year Award.

2015 saw Bryant make his big league debut. He was the National League’s (NL) Rookie of the Year and an MLB All-Star. In 2016, he won a World Series championship with the Cubs, was awarded the National League’s Most Valuable Player, and was once again chosen an All-Star. Before the 2022 season, he inked a seven-year deal with the Rockies after being dealt by the Cubs to the Giants in 2021.

Bryant went to Las Vegas, Nevada’s Bonanza High School. He spent all four years on the varsity baseball team at the school, where he amassed 103 hits, 47 career home runs, a.958 slugging percentage (SLG), and a.418 batting average. He was an American Legion Baseball player as well.[2] In 2010, USA Today selected him for their All-USA Baseball first team.[3] In the 18th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, Bryant was chosen by the Toronto Blue Jays. He enrolled at the University of San Diego to play collegiate baseball for the San Diego Toreros baseball team without signing a contract.[4]

Bryant had nine home runs, a.365 batting average, a.482 on-base percentage (OBP), and a.599 SLG in his rookie season at the University of San Diego in 2011. Louisville Slugger named him a freshman All-American.[5] and, jointly with Marco Gonzales, was named the West Coast Conference’s (WCC) Co-Player of the Year and Co-Freshman of the Year.[3][6] Bryant played college summer baseball with the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League after his freshman season at San Diego. He batted 29-for-130 (.223) with three home runs and sixteen runs batted in (RBIs).[7][8]
