Many of the best players on the Ohio State Buckeyes’ roster may leave due to graduation or the NFL Draft. Kyle McCord, the previous starting quarterback, has already started the transfer process, and it seems like Marvin Harrison Jr. is also probably headed away.
However, many of the other top players on the roster who could theoretically be drafted on Day 1 or Day 2, are also seriously considering returning to make a run at a Big Ten Title in 2024 – and maybe more. Defensive end Jack Sawyer is one of those players. And though he hasn’t outright said he is going to be back in Columbus next season, he certainly seems to be leaning that way.
When asked if he will play in the season opener against Akron in the fall of next year, Sawyer responded, “I don’t know, we’ll see.” Yes, that’s more than likely. Most likely.
The most recent player to make a return hint is Sawyer. not only for himself but also for the other players who have an impact on the team.
These players have discussed their potential to create a significant impact in 2024 extensively, and they are aware that if it occurs. Perhaps more critical, though, is that those players appear to understand that they have what it takes to make a significant leap, as seen by their performance on the ball defense from 2021 to 2022.
Sawyer stated, “You saw how big of a jump you can take, and what happens when you build off the first year into the second year.” “If everyone chooses to return, I still believe we need to make a significant step forward next year.” The specific players who will and won’t return for the Buckeyes’ campaign in 2019 are probably still a few days away. However, judging by Sawyer’s and similar remarks, it appears that they might defy the current college football trend and bring back a significant percentage of those NFL prospects.
