According to officials, Chicago Cubs pitcher Pedro Strop was engaged in an automobile accident in the Dominican Republic but was not harmed.
The 29-year-old was driving a pickup truck when he collided with a wall late Wednesday on a route south-west of Santo Domingo.
“We’ve talked with Pedro’s family, and they’ve told us he’s doing well and resting at home,” said Juan Mercado, general assistant manager of the Cibao Giants winter league team.

The cause of the crash remains unknown. Strop was travelling with a friend named Yeudy Delgado, who was not hurt, according to officials.
Strop went 2-4 with a 2.21 ERA and two saves for the Cubs last season after being acquired in a midseason trade in 2013. He’s a six-year veteran who previously played for the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles before being traded to the Cubs alongside Jake Arrieta for pitcher Scott Feldman.
It was the third crash involving a Dominican baseball player in less than a month.

Ronald Guzman, a Texas Rangers prospect, was involved in a deadly accident on Tuesday that killed a 27-year-old man. Oscar Taveras, a rookie outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, and his fiancée were killed in a car accident on Oct. 26. He was driving with a blood alcohol level more than five times the legal limit, according to police.
Several other players have died in car accidents in the Dominican Republic over the last two decades, which has the world’s second-highest traffic-related death rate, with roughly 42 deaths per 100,000 people.
