Reece Walsh, a great fullback and one of the major free agents of 2019; Walsh is apparently not talking to the Brisbane Broncos about a contract extension.

Walsh reportedly reached an agreement with the team at the end of March to sign a new contract worth $5.5 million over five seasons, according to sources from News Corp.

The great fullback hasn’t signed the contract yet, though, and he even acknowledged as much on social media at the moment.

One of the most marketable players in the NRL and a major retention priority for the Red Hill team, the Broncos are reportedly expected to give him about $7 million over five seasons, which would be a $1.5 million rise, according to The Daily Telegraph.

With an estimated yearly salary of $1.4 million, he would be paid similarly to Nathan Cleary of the Penrith Panthers and Kalyn Ponga.

Given that he will be free to engage with rival clubs starting on November 1 and is probably going to attract the interest of all 16 rival NRL teams, it is thought that the delay has created some concern among club executives.

The magazine was informed by Broncos Chief Executive Dave Donaghy that “we’re doing everything we can to retain Reece.”

Given that Walsh has re-signed, the Broncos will probably have some difficult decisions to make regarding the rest of their squad, particularly with regard to centers Kotoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo, who have both been connected to opposing teams.
