Another crucial addition has arrived for Kentucky through the transfer portal.

Gerald Mincey, a transfer from Tennessee’s offensive line, committed to the Wildcats on a visit to Lexington on Friday night. Mincey, who signed up for the transfer site on January 4, was supposed to visit Ole Miss this coming weekend.

One of the biggest unanswered questions for the UK in 2024 was right tackle, and Mincey, who has played both left and right tackle in his over 1,000 career plays, definitely fits the mould.

Mincey will likely have competition for snaps at right tackle from USC transfer Courtland Ford, who is in his second season at the UK. With the exception of right tackle Jeremy Flax and left guard Kenneth Horsey, the Cats’ offensive line rotation is all back.

The enormous 6-foot-6, 337-pound Mincey assumed the starting position on the left side of an offensive line that was selected as a Joe Moore Award semifinalist for a second consecutive season. He played 430 snaps at right tackle and 147 snaps at left tackle this season. He played rotational snaps off the bench at both tackle spots in the Virginia, Austin Peay and UTSA games in September before making the starting lineup.

For the second year in a row, an offensive line that was chosen as a Joe Moore Award semifinalist saw the huge 6-foot-6, 337-pound Mincey start on the left side. This season, he has played 470 snaps at left tackle and 430 snaps at right tackle. Before entering the starting lineup in September, he played rotational snaps off the bench at both tackle spots in the games against Virginia, Austin Peay, and UTSA.

Mincey gave up 17 quarterback pressures (15 hurries, 2 sacks) on 281 pass-blocking snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. Among Tennessee offensive linemen who started multiple games, Mincey’s run-blocking grade (58.9) was the fifth-highest.

Mincey has lived in Kentucky before. Shortly after attending UK’s Junior Day in February 2019, he made his commitment to the Wildcats. Mincey pledged to Florida after decommitting from Kentucky in March of 2019. He stayed there for two seasons before moving to Tennessee and then completed a full circle in his collegiate career by committing to UK once more.

Coming out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mincey was rated as a 3-star talent and a top-50 offensive lineman nationally in the class of 2020 by 247Sports.
