Why J.J. McCarthy is regarded as the greatest Michigan offensive MVP of all times

A variety of playmakers have helped the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines go 13-0 this season and remain unbeaten.

This week’s SB Nation Reacts featured comments from Michigan supporters regarding their selection for Michigan’s offensive MVP in 2023.

First place went to quarterback J.J. McCarthy (49 percent), followed by running back Blake Corum (34 percent) and offensive guard Zak Zinter (16 percent).

McCarthy completed 74.2 percent of his throws for 2,630 yards this season, with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions, earning him the title of Griese-Brees Big Ten Quarterback of the Year. McCarthy added three rushing touchdowns and 146 yards of additional running. McCarthy’s passing efficiency of 170.25 places him sixth overall.

This season, Corum has gained 1,028 yards through rushes and leads the country with 24 touchdowns. For the second year in a row, Corum won the title of Big Ten Running Back of the Year.

Zinter had an outstanding season on Michigan’s offensive line, earning him a unanimous First-Team All-American selection. Only eight other Michigan players have held the distinction in the previous 30 years. Zinter’s season was cut short by a leg injury sustained against Ohio State, but he was unquestionably the Wolverines’ most impressive lineman.
