GREY NEWS, ARAB, AL – Are video games able to teach?

According to an Alabama middle school teacher, this is the case.

Mr. Mahathey is an Arab teacher for seventh and eighth graders. His use of the computer game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to deliver a history lesson lately made him extremely popular on TikTok.

The Battle of Thermopylae is one of the major historical events that the Assassin’s Creed video game series is based on, and in the video, Mahathey is seen teaching his students about it.The World History Encyclopaedia states that Thermopylae is a mountain pass close to the sea in northern Greece. The most well-known combat that took place at the location throughout human history was the combat of Thermopylae, which took place in August 480 BCE and took place within the framework of the Persian War between the Greeks and Persians.

Despite having a far lesser army than the Persians, the Greeks were nevertheless able to hold the pass, according to the World History Encyclopaedia. King Leonidas commanded a small contingent of Spartans and Greek hoplites, or citizen-soldiers, who were usually armed with spears and shields.
