TRANSFER PORTAL: Gerald Mincey enters transfer portal for the following reasons below

Gerald Mincey has logged into the site for transfers. With one more season left to play, Tennessee’s starting right tackle will look into his alternatives elsewhere

Mincey started six games this season, battling injuries down the stretch. He played at left tackle during the 2022 season, starting seven games and appearing in nine. Mincey transferred in from Florida following the 2021 season.

He was expected to return to his right tackle role for the 2023 season, but it’s possible that he’s looking for another opportunity to showcase himself at left tackle with just one season of eligibility left. Mincey’s role changed following John Campbell’s arrival one year ago, where he took over at left tackle. Campbell is set to return, along with center Cooper Mays. Tennessee is still waiting on a decision from guard Javontez Spraggins.

The portal is still churning, and Tennessee needs a starter right tackle right now.
The only remaining player with experience at the position is Dayne Davis. Shamurad Umarov might be a possibility. Bennett Warren, a four-star tackle, will also soon be a student on campus. However, if the staff feels that they need something other than Davis, they might still add an experienced option through the transfer portal.

Despite having one more season of eligibility remaining, he might be seeking another chance to prove himself at left tackle. He was anticipated to return to his right tackle position for the 2023 campaign. After John Campbell joined the team a year earlier, Mincey assumed the position of left tackle, changing his role. Both Campbell and Cooper Mays, the centre, are expected back. Guard Javontez Spraggins’s decision is still pending for Tennessee.
Tennessee is now looking for a starting right tackle as the portal keeps churning.
