A former starting pitcher for the Chicago Cubs, is still being pursued by teams.
MLB Network analyst Jon Morosi reports that three organisations seem interested in signing the former Cubs right-hander.
The three teams that are vying for Stroman want a seasoned player who can provide stability to their lineup in 2024. One of them was among the first teams out of the finals, despite being heavily involved in the market for Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
That team was the San Francisco Giants. According to MLB.com’s depth chart, their current lineup consists of Logan Webb, Ross Stripling, Kyle Harrison, Keaton Winn, and Alex Cobb.
The Los Angeles Angels, who play on the Giants’ west coast, are also said to be participating. The Cubs wanted Shohei Ohtani, a player the Angels lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Angels are reconstructing their rotation now that Ohtani is not available, and players on the depth chart that they have are Tyler Anderson, Patrick Sandoval, Reid Detmers, Gryphon Canning, Chase Silseth, Kenny Rosenberg, and Davis Daniel.
In order to accommodate Ohtani, the Angels employed a six-man rotation; it is unclear if first-year manager Ron Washington will stick with that strategy in 2024.
The third suitor is the AL East champion Baltimore Orioles from the previous season. For the bulk of the winter, the Orioles have been searching for a seasoned starter, but they haven’t found one. According to certain reports, Dylan Cease, the starter for the Chicago White Sox, was traded to the Orioles.
With Kyle Bradish, Grayson Rodriguez, John Means, Dean Kremer, and Tyler Wells currently under contract, the Orioles boast one of the greatest young rosters in baseball. All are young, though. A senior leader like Stroman would provide some much-needed experience to their rotation.
“When you consider the way the Orioles have assembled their staff, I believe he would be a good fit for one of those three teams: the Giants, the Angels, or them,” Morosi stated.
