A healthy Madrigal (hamstring) will enter the offseason, according to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune.
Madrigal was placed on the 60-day injured list at the end of the season after sustaining a right hamstring injury in mid-September. But it seems like he’s recovered now, or will be by the time he starts his offseason training regimen. This season, Madrigal had 68 starts with the Cubs, 61 of which were at third base. He finished with a.663 OPS and two home runs. In 2024, he’ll get another chance to contend for playing time, but the team undoubtedly hopes to have a better hot corner option.
According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs moved Madrigal (hamstring) from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Prior to the season finale against the Brewers on Sunday, Chicago made a number of roster changes after being formally ruled out of playoff contention on Saturday. For procedural reasons, Madrigal and Michael Fulmer (forearm) were placed on the 60-day injured list. Shane Greene and Tyler Duffey, two relievers, were able to take Madrigal’s and Fulmer’s spots on the 40-man roster. During the offseason, Madrigal will be activated and added back to the 40-man roster. He should recuperate completely from his right hamstring strain well in time for spring training.
Due to a right hamstring issue, Madrigal was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Tuesday, according to Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network.
Madrigal hurt his hamstring during the Diamondbacks game on Saturday, and he won’t be able to play again until at least September 27. In order to add some additional infield depth, the Cubs have recalled Jared Young from Triple-A Iowa. Christopher Morel will cover third base on Tuesday against the Pirates.
Due to a hamstring issue, Madrigal will not be starting for the Diamondbacks on Sunday, according to Maddie Lee of The Sun Times.
Madrigal left Saturday’s 7–6 extra-inning loss to Arizona before the game due to what seemed to be a hamstring strain. “It was just some cramping and tightness,” manager David Ross said on Sunday, adding that Madrigal shouldn’t need to spend any time on the injured list. With the Cubs off on Monday, the 26-year-old can currently be viewed as day-to-day.
