Saint Louis (AP) – Matt Carpenter has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the St. Louis Cardinals that will keep him with the organisation from 2011 to 21.
As part of a $12 million, two-year contract he signed with San Diego in December 2022, Carpenter agreed to a deal for the $740,000 big league minimum, which will be deducted from his guaranteed $5.5 million salary.
In a statement, Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said, “When you think of players that helped shape our success in the 2000s, Matt Carpenter’s name is one that is synonymous with winning.” “Matt showed from the very beginning of his career how hard work and determination can lead to success, and we are excited to have his leadership and experience back in a Cardinals uniform.”
Carpenter, a first baseman and occasional outfielder, was sent to Atlanta last month in exchange for $1.5 million. Three days later, the Braves released Carpenter. Carpenter actually costs the Padres $1.5 million, the Cardinals $740,000, and the Braves $3.26 million.
In 2013, 2014, and 2016, Carpenter was an All-Star. With 175 home runs and 644 RBIs for the Cardinals, Yankees, and Padres, he has a career.260 average. Just 50 at-bats were played after July 1st, yet he hit.176 with five home runs and 31 RBIs. After September 10, Carpenter was unable to play due to discomfort in his right elbow.
Over the past few years, the Atlanta Braves have been extremely fortunate to be able to retain the majority of its core. Though there have been some big losses, such as Dansby Swanson and Freddie Freeman, the Braves have still ranked among the best in baseball when it comes to keeping their players healthy and strong throughout the season.
However, no organisation is impervious to players that reach free agency. The number of former Braves players has been progressively increasing around the league, from players who were instrumental in pivotal occasions to others who supporters of the team wish they had done more. Many of those players find themselves still searching for a team to play for in 2024 because to the slow pace of this offseason.
Making a complete list of every guy who has ever worn a Braves uniform would take a very long time and many of those names wouldn’t be very interesting, so that’s not the aim here. Not every bench player or bullpen stopgap is ultimately something to obsess over.
Rather, here is a look at former Braves who were noteworthy in one way or another from this past season and previous years. It’s amazing how far the Braves’ impact extends throughout the baseball world, even when we only look that far. Moreover, it’s entertaining to watch how some of these men are doing because many of them played significant roles in Braves history.
Let’s see the activities of these ten former Braves.
In the NLCS of 2021, Eddie Rosario nearly single-handedly defeated the Dodgers, a memory that Braves supporters cherish. Even though he was excellent during that playoffs run, his performance in that series cemented his legacy in Atlanta history and was one of the greatest in recent memory. MVP titles in postseason series are usually meaningless, but Rosario deserved to win that Dodgers series.
Regretfully, he had severe vision problems the next season, which significantly reduced his output in 2022. Even though he played well much of the previous season, the Braves decided to take a different approach in left field, declining his $9 million option for 2024 in favour of Jarred Kelenic. For the upcoming season, he’ll most likely sign a one-year contract somewhere; but, as of yet, no concrete information has been provided as to where.
