Even though Keider Montero had his poorest start of the year, the Hens’ offense was potent enough to win the first game.
In the bottom of the first, Henry Davis hit a home run off of Montero, giving Indianapolis a 1-0 lead. In the upper third, the Hens rallied.
In the third inning, Buddy Kennedy and Andrew Navigato each doubled once to square the score. Justyn-Henry Malloy doubled in Navigato after Parker Meadows struck out, giving Toledo a 2-1 lead.
But in the bottom of the third, Montero restored the lead. Indianapolis scored two runs in a row with one out and took a 3-2 lead. In the fourth, a walk and a double granted made it.
Kennedy swiped second and led off with a walk to give the Hens a one-up in the fifth. He scored on a Navigato single to put Indianapolis up 4–3. Malloy walked after Navigato stole second, but they were unable to force another run. In the seventh inning, with the Hens down to their last three outs, Parker Meadows hit a solo homer to tie the game after they had wasted another excellent opportunity in the sixth.
