Tigers Legendary Icon Kirk Gibson Sadly Passes Away @67 This season, the Detroit Tigers have had trouble scoring runs, but on Sunday afternoon, that was not the case. The Toronto Blue Jays, their rivals, did not do the same.

But Matt Vierling would have the final laugh, capping off a fantastic day with a fitting conclusion to the wild game, giving the Tigers the upper hand.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Vierling stepped up to the plate with two on and two out. He then went on to drive a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left field to give the Tigers a 14-11 victory and a three-game series sweep at Comerica Park.

After Detroit got out to a 5-0 lead, Toronto continued to chip away at the lead, scoring two more runs in the fifth inning after a two-run home drive by Cavan Biggio in the fourth.

The Tigers led 8-3 after Carson Kelly’s three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Blue Jays answered with two runs in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, Vierling hit his first home run, making the score 9-5.

But Toronto scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab an 11-9 lead after Isiah Kiner-home run Falefa’s single in the seventh cut the lead to 9-6.

Vierling scored the game-winning run after Mark Canha’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth tied the score at 11.
