With a 4-for-4 night that included a single home run and a three-run shot by Andy Ibanez, the visiting Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 11-7 on Tuesday. Ryan Vilade also recorded his first three career RBIs.
Ibanez launched his first home run of the year in the opening inning against Logan Allen of Cleveland. Then in the second, he sent a three-run home ball to the right field wall to give Detroit a 5-2 lead.
After being called up from Triple-A Toledo, Vilade tied the score at 7-7 in the third inning with a two-run single, his first major league hit. In order to help the Tigers level the series and end a four-game losing streak during which they scored seven runs, he also drove home a run with his single in the seventh.
During seven scoreless innings, Tyler Holton (3-0) and three additional Detroit relievers limited Cleveland to only three hits.
The Guardians, who had won three straight, were led by Jose Ramirez with three hits and two RBIs, and Josh Naylor with a two-run home run, his ninth of the season.
For the second straight night, Detroit started the game with a home run when Ibanez sent a 2-0 pitch from Allen over the towering left-field wall. But in the bottom of the first, Tigers right-hander Kenta Maeda gave up a two-run double to deep center by Will Brennan.
In the second inning, Detroit retaliated when Jake Rogers hit his first of two doubles during the contest and scored on a single by Javier Baez. Allen walked Carson Kelly when Baez was on, and Ibanez then went deep to right field.
