Jyaire Hill, a Michigan cornerback, was honoured by the City of Kankakee, Illinois, earlier this week during a ceremony held at City Council.

The Wolverines finished the season unbeaten, defeating Alabama in the Rose Bowl and Washington in the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship Game. The former four-star prospect played in four games for the team.

He and his family attended City Council on Tuesday night when the members overwhelmingly approved the following resolution:

Jyaire Hill, a former student of Kankakee High School, is an All-American sprinter, a distinguished football player, and a committed athlete. In contrast, Jyaire Hill played youth ball for the East Side Bulldogs in the City of Kankakee. Conversely, as the first Kankakee football team to compete in the Class 5A state championship game, Jyaire Hill guided the Kays to the runners-up position in the 2021 state championship. However, Jyaire Hill was the first Kays athlete to be selected as an All-American in the US Army

Football is American. In contrast, Jyaire Hill led the Kays to a Class 2A state championship while competing for the first time as a member of the Kankakee High School Boys Track & Field Team. On the other hand, Jyaire Hill represented the Kays in the high school state championship 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Jyaire Hill was a true freshman at Michigan and appeared in four games. In contrast, the University of Michigan emerged victorious in the Rose Bowl, the Big Ten Conference, the Big Ten Season Championship, and the NCAA College Football Championship in 2024. Whereas the athlete and alum of Kankakee High School has honoured the City of Kankakee, the City of Kankakee also thanks his parents, Joeron and Kanesha Hill, for recognising their son’s exceptional athletic talent, perseverance, and dedication, as well as for providing him with opportunities to develop as a person, student, and athlete.

Thus, it is decided that Jyaire Hill, a member of the University of Michigan football team that won the NCAA title in 2024, be recognised and honoured by Mayor Christopher W. Curtis and the City Council of the City of Kankakee, Illinois.

Kankakee Mayor Christopher W. Curtis gave Hill a maize-and-blue plaque commemorating the national championship season after the resolution was passed. Strong Michigan State supporter Curtis laughed that his remarks should be “nowhere on record” as he described how he saw himself supporting Michigan in the CFP.
