Following their run for the NFC Championship, the Detroit Lions are putting in every effort to go deep into the playoffs once more the following autumn. On Thursday, Detroit made a roster change that guarantees at least one of its top scorers will wear the blue and white in 2024. The Lions have signed kicker Michael Badgley to a one-year contract, as reported by NFL source Ian Rapoport. This means Badgley will play for the team for a third consecutive year.
Riley Patterson was the placekicker for the Lions when the season began, but Detroit decided to insert Badgley in his place after Patterson missed two extra points in three games. Matt Prater was the Lions’ only kicker for the entire 2020 season, when he started all 16 games.
After an outstanding four games with the squad the previous season, Michael Badgley was signed by the Lions to a one-year contract on Thursday. Midway through December, Badgley made his debut for the season, scoring all six of his extra points in a resounding 42–17 victory over the Denver Broncos. The following week, the Miami, Florida, product converted his first field goal attempt and went 3-of-4 in extra points. With a long of 41 yards, Badgley completed the regular season perfect 4-of-4 from field goal range. In the postseason, the 28-year-old continued to be flawless, making both of his field goal attempts.
The Detroit Lions won their first postseason game since 1991 last season. During Super Wild Card Weekend, Detroit defeated the Los Angeles Rams; the following weekend, they defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But they lost to the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in a heartbreaking fashion in the NFC Championship.
The Lions signed kicker Michael Badgley on Thursday, and based on recent reports, they may attempt to extend the contracts of wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and quarterback Jared Goff. In his three seasons with the Lions, Goff has passed for 78 touchdowns versus 27 picks. In the meantime, St. Brown’s 1,515 yards and 119 catches in 2023 gave him All-Pro status. He scored ten goals.
