Chicago Cubs Still Viewed As Team To Make Major Splash - Sports Illustrated Inside The Cubs

It’s believed that the Chicago Cubs are a squad that may still have a significant impact throughout the summer.

The Chicago Cubs’ lacklustre offseason has been concerning. It was assumed they would splurge after making Craig Counsell the highest-paid manager in baseball. Although Shohei Ohtani and other players were available, their contracts weren’t competitive enough to secure them.

Chicago’s offseason remains a mystery as they were not involved in the Juan Soto move.

They definitely need to upgrade their roster as 2024 approaches.

They do have some talent, but not quite enough to help them achieve one of their goals—winning the World Series.

There is still plenty of time for the front office to make a big move, in spite of the paucity of changes.

The Cubs are the team with the best potential to still make a significant move, according to MLB.com. Although the squad hasn’t added any outside players to its 40-man roster, they hinted that this may soon change.

They suggested bringing back Cody Bellinger, who experienced a successful comeback year in 2023. They also mention other choices, such Matt Chapman and Rhys Hoskins. Should Bellinger’s cost exceed their budget, they may consider Hoskins and Chapman.

For the remainder of the offseason, those three names appear to be the most plausible for Chicago.

They’ll probably switch to Cody Bellinger, to play first base and maintain power in their lineup if they can’t sign Bellinger.

They might still go after Chapman because he is a formidable defensive player, even in the absence of the Bellinger circumstance.

Though the Cubs’ quiet few months have been worrying thus far, they still have time to turn things around and acquire players who will help this team win.
