Tennessee Volunteers Icon Jason Witten Tragically Kicked The Bucket @42 A few months from now will be year one of the Nico Iamaleava era and year four under Josh Heupel. Under Heupel’s direction, Tennessee football has been revitalized, and with the addition of an enlarged postseason, Knoxville can now expect a significant return.
After Oklahoma and Texas joined the Southeastern Conference, Tennessee will play on a conference schedule without divisions. The schedule for 2024 is highlighted by road visits to Oklahoma and Georgia, a home game versus Alabama, and a trip to Charlotte to play NC State.
This season, the Tennessee Volunteers have excelled in the mound. The Vols’ pitching essentially carried them through to their second regular season and tournament title sweep in three years, even though they were missing starting pitcher A.J. Russell for the majority of the year.
This season, pitching coach Frank Anderson has performed admirably, as evidenced by the team’s 3.83 ERA. With just Arkansas surpassing them, that ranks second among Power Five schools and fourth overall in the country.
On the other hand, the Vols, led by flamethrower Aaron Snead, have been very successful recently in the back end. Apart from a little mishap in a game he began on May 22, against Vanderbilt, the hard-throwing righty has performed admirably for the Vols in the bullpen.
Snead delivered the fastest pitch of all the pitchers in the nation during conference tournament weekend, clocking in at 101 miles per hour, according to D1 Baseball.
Guys who can reach triple digits on the gun are nothing new to the Vols. In 2022, Ben Joyce, who is currently with the Los Angeles Angels organization, was a frequent thrower for the Vols, reaching a high speed of 105.5 mph. Chase Burns, who is currently a Wake Forest player, also reached triple digits.
As a result, the Vols have had players in previous years who they could quickly add another gear to the radar gun by pulling someone out of the bullpen. In Snead, it seems like they have that this year.
