Mike Tomlin - Head Coach

Steelers Incumbent Coach Mike Tomlin Sadly Kicks The Bucket @52 Due To Averett informed Adamski that he believed many teams were reluctant to contact him because of his previous history of injuries.

The slot position is empty and needs to be filled by someone for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have limited possibilities available. These include Josiah Scott and Beanie Bishop, although Anthony Averett, a seasoned player, might offer a strong player who could compete for that position. Most of the previous season, he was a member of the Detroit Lions practice squad.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Averett, 29, in the fourth round of the draft out of Alabama. From there, he would sign a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders once his rookie contract expired in 2021. He then alternated between the San Francisco 49ers and the Lions for the remainder of 2023.

Averett was looking for any opportunity to revive his career, so he took it as a surprise when he received an invitation to the Steelers rookie minicamp during his tryout.

Not really; I just sort of go. Yes, I simply leave. Averett said to Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, “I mean, hey, rookie — didn’t really expect to be here my seventh year in, hey, you know, different, you know, different places.”

Averett has 114 tackles, 23 pass deflections, and three interceptions in his career. Most of those stats were earned by the 5-foot-11 cornerback during his time with the Ravens. In addition, he has had numerous injuries to cope with, such as a fractured thumb in 2022 and hamstring and shoulder strains in 2020.
