The squad found out about McCollough’s arrest on Sunday night, according to coach Josh Heupel. On Saturday, the Volunteers (5-0, 2-0 SEC) will play host to Alabama (6-0, 3-0).
Heupel stated, “As they obtain information, we’ll have a conversation based on the facts of it and go from there.”
Since mid-August, the Vols have had three arrests; the other two players were dismissed from the team. Both offensive lineman Savion Herring and linebacker William Mohan, a transfer from Michigan, were taken into custody on suspicion of felony aggravated domestic assault.
With 23 tackles, McCollough, a four-year starter for Tennessee, is tied for fourth place. In a 40-13 victory over then-No. 25 LSU on Saturday, he scored seven.
The security guard, 21, was taken into custody on Sunday. According to an arrest warrant obtained by Knox News, when police arrived at an apartment building at 3:30 p.m., they discovered a man missing teeth and with a swollen and bloody mouth.
After drinking with friends, the man told the police, he went to get something from his car. The man claims he went to the incorrect building, knocked, and then entered through an unlocked door. According to the police report, the man apologized and left after realizing he had entered the wrong apartment.
Police spoke with a woman who called McCollough back to the scene, and the safety had blood seeping through a bandage on his right hand. McCollough did not answer questions and was taken into custody, according to the man, who told police he apologized again when someone followed him outside and allegedly punched him in the face, causing him to fall down stairs and become unconscious.
