Injuries to prominent players plagued the San Francisco 49ers throughout the 2020 NFL regular season. Any chance of making it back to the Super Bowl was destroyed by extended losses of Jimmy Garoppolo, Richard Sherman, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, and Deebo Samuel. One player who was injured early in the season but received less attention is Solomon Thomas, a defensive lineman. In Week 2 versus the New York Jets, the third overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft suffered an ACL tear. After the team rejected his fifth-year option before the 2020 campaign, the 25-year-old is now free to sign with any team. It’s difficult to understand how Solly fits in with the league’s cap crunch caused by the economic consequences of the pandemic.
