Lucky to escape a “bad injury,” Paulo Bernardo watched the video of Conor Goldson’s incident following Rangers’ loss to Celtic.

After video of an altercation between Paulo Bernardo of Celtic and Rangers’ Connor Goldson during the Old Firm derby surfaced, Peter Grant speculated that the Celtic star was fortunate to have escaped a “bad injury.”

On Saturday (30 December), Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops defeated Glasgow 2-1, with goals from Bernardo and Kyogo Furuhashi guaranteeing James Tavernier’s late free-kick was only a fillip. This gave the Hoops the bragging rights over Glasgow.

Some Rangers supporters felt Bernardo was lucky to avoid a second yellow for a foul on Goldson during the second half at Celtic Park, but BBC pundit Grant thinks otherwise, suggesting the Celtic man was fortunate to not pick up a major knock.

“At first I thought he was going to be lucky here, but when you look at it, I think Connor Goldson is really lucky,” he stated in an interview with BBC Sportscene on December 30, 24:46. I believe he ultimately goes over the ball.

“Goldson has an injury to his upper leg, and I believe that Bernardo is really fortunate that he did not get a serious injury there. Though he also gave an amazing performance, I believe that people are calling it a second yellow.

It felt as though almost every continuous decision during Saturday’s game went the way of the home side and while Rangers may have won the free kick for this incident, they will have really felt like Bernardo’s challenge warranted a second yellow card.

Grant may be of the opinion that Goldson was the fortunate party in this coming together, but it feels as though the BBC pundit could well be in the minority with the assessment of the incident, especially among Rangers supporters.
