Michigan is attempting to win the national championship this century and become the first team outside of Ohio State to represent the Big Ten. After splitting with Nebraska, a team that was once a part of the Big 12, the Wolverines last won the national championship in 1997.
When USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington join the expanded conference in 2024, the Big Ten will soon look different. Going future, divisions won’t exist, which will probably make it much harder for the middle- and bottom-tier teams to compete for a conference championship.
