Although the media focuses primarily on Green Bay’s terrible defensive performance on Sunday, I thought it was important to highlight one of the few encouraging aspects of the game: the new class of rookies is beginning to appear even more reliable.
We have to start at wide receiver, where Dontayvion Wicks, a fifth-round pick, has recently shown himself to be a competitive starter on par with Doubs, Watson, and Reed.
When the season started, Wicks might have been disregarded as the forgotten fourth member of this group, but after seeing an increase in targets in the last six weeks, Wicks now appears to be a starter.
Despite having a career day on Sunday with six receptions for 97 yards, Wicks is still mostly unknown to the general NFL fan base and the national media. That might be explained by Wicks’s lack of touchdowns this season—he has only one.
In any case, this kid has a great appearance, and it seems like a matter of time (as well as breathing room in this crowded wide receiver corps) until Wicks establishes himself as a reliable option in Jordan Love’s offence.
