This offseason, the Chicago Cubs made a valiant effort to add a star player. Landing Juan Soto, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, or Shohei Ohtani would have been their dream team. They were sincerely negotiating a trade to obtain Tyler Glasnow.
Still, the Cubs have added no real talent as of this winter’s halfway point.
The team and its supporters did not anticipate this offseason when they made the bold decision to employ Craig Counsell and declared their intention to quickly assemble a competitive roster.

Chicago turned to Yamamoto after failing to land Ohtani, but both Japanese sensations turned them down.
What will happen to the Cubs now?
As to Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation, the team may not be done with the bad news this offseason.

The news is quite harsh.
If Chicago hopes to contend for a postseason berth, they will want a top-tier player to partner alongside Justin Steele.
Jordan Montgomery has shown his value by contributing significantly to the Texas Rangers’ World Series triumph. Although Shota Imanaga is a lesser-known pitcher from Japan, he has excelled in Nippon Professional Baseball with impressive stats.

These two additions would have been quite beneficial.
It will be more challenging for the Cubs to make the kind of big splash they had hoped for, though, as the market is starting to dwindle and some of the finest players are seeking new homes.
