In 2013, when Vettel emerged victorious in the last nine races, nobody believed that a person could win consecutive Grands Prix. Verstappen, nevertheless, has had an incredible season, finishing on the top step of the podium ten times, starting with his comeback drive at the Miami Grand Prix in May and continuing through to the Italian Grand Prix in September.

This year, Max Verstappen had perhaps the most dominant season of any driver in Formula One history. He went on to win three world championships and made a lasting impression that elevated him to the status of one of the sport’s greatest drivers.

Verstappen has eclipsed Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Sebastian Vettel on Sunday in Abu Dhabi to become the third most successful driver in terms of wins. With his 19 victories, he has now tied the record with some of the best drivers in racing history.

With 54 wins, he is only surpassed by Lewis Hamilton (103), and Michael Schumacher (91). Though it will take him a few more years to catch up to Hamilton, what records did Verstappen shatter this year?

In 2022, Verstappen broke the record with 15 race victories, surpassing Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher’s 13 victories.

However, the Dutchman has won 19 of the 22 races in 2023, a four-fold improvement. This indicates that Verstappen has won 86% of the Grands Prix this year, surpassing Alberto Ascari’s record of 75% set in 1952.

Verstappen’s 86% is very amazing considering that there were a lot fewer races during that time period as well, with Ascari winning six of the eight races. Will someone ever defeat it? Most likely not.
