CJ Stokes, a sophomore running back for the Michigan Wolverines, has terminated his contract with the team, he announced on social media Monday morning.
During Blake Corum’s and Donovan Edwards’ injury-plagued last stretch of the previous season, the South Carolina native, a second-year running back, was crucial. He ran 11 times during the Illinois game, which is when Corum sustained his injury. As a true freshman, he ran for 273 yards and one score.
However, he was injured this season, which reduced his playing time and caused him to drop down the depth chart. In the two games that he participated in in 2023, he ran four times for eight yards.
The running back room at Michigan is deep. While Corum will undoubtedly depart after this season, there is a chance that Edwards returns given his lacklustre junior campaign. In addition, the Wolverines will have Ben Hall, Cole Cabana, Jordan Marshall, Micah Ka’apana, and incoming true freshmen in 2024. If they need one more running back, they can also look to the portal to bring in a running back. We wish Stokes the best of luck in his future endeavours.
