In 2023, Blake Corum went back to Michigan to take care of some “unfinished business.” After suffering an injury in Week 11 that halted his junior season early, Corum is returning to lead this squad as the compressed, five-foot-eight bell cow. Following a season in which he totalled 1,463 rushing yards, 19 touchdowns overall, and the Pro Football Focus (PFF) consolation Heisman Trophy, the 2022 unanimous All-American is in high form.

With the help of his backfield partner Donovan Edwards, Corum—one of the most productive backs in college football—will have an easier season. Last season, the explosive and adaptable Edwards ran for 991 yards, including a 216-yard, two-touchdown effort in a win over Ohio State.

However, in addition to Corum’s injury, Edwards battled through a torn patella tendon and fractures in his hand last season. Health and availability will be the name of the game for both running backs this year and if both can remain healthy, the Wolverines are difficult to beat. In games where both Corum and Edwards received a carry in 2022, the Wolverines won every contest by 13+ points.

The opening Corum had been focusing on vanished rapidly, leaving an Alabama linebacker in a good position to make a crucial stop on defence. Rather than attempting to burrow through, the running back sprang to his left in search of a more direct path to the end zone. The 23-year-old then fought his way in for six points, eluding several tackles in the process and enabling the Wolverines take a 27–20 lead.

Following the game, Corum received roses from college football fans on social media, expressing their admiration for his astute and forceful run that helped Michigan secure a spot in the national championship.
