Pittsburgh Pirates’ Head Coach’s Post-Match Humorous Comment Against Kansas City Royals
“Well, folks, what a game! You know, I’m not saying we didn’t hit the ball well tonight, but I think our bats were on a coffee break. Maybe they were too busy admiring the view from the dugout to bother with making contact. The Kansas City Royals sure know how to make a game exciting, and tonight, they made it look like they were playing chess while we were still figuring out checkers.
I have to hand it to the Royals. Their pitching was so good, I half expected them to start giving us a lesson on how to hold the bat. At one point, I thought our players were trying to play hide and seek with the baseball – the ball was definitely playing hard to get. If there was a ‘most elusive pitch’ award, their guy would have needed a bigger trophy case.
Our guys tried to rally, though. You could see them in the dugout, rallying their spirits. It was like a motivational seminar – ‘If you swing hard enough, maybe the baseball will get scared and come to us.’ Unfortunately, it seems the baseball had other plans, probably enjoying a vacation in the outfield.
And let’s not forget our defense! We had some catches that were so impressive, they could have been mistaken for auditioning for a circus act. There were moments I thought our outfielders were trying to channel their inner acrobats. If we ever need to join a circus, we’re definitely hiring our outfielders – they’ve already got the moves down.
But seriously, hats off to the Royals. They played a great game and showed us that every once in a while, a team can make it look like they’re on a whole different level. But don’t worry, we’ll regroup and get back to our usual selves. We’re not about to let one game turn into a permanent vacation from victory. We’ll shake off the dust, get our bats out of their coffee break, and be ready for the next challenge.
So, to the fans, thanks for sticking with us. We promise to try and make the next game a bit less of a comedy show and a lot more of a winning performance. After all, the only thing we want to be best at is winning – and maybe the occasional acrobatic catch.”
