As MLB offseason activities pick up steam, the Pittsburgh Pirates West are beginning to take shape. The Oakland A’s have signed another former Pirate to their roster after earlier this month signing 2023 Pirate players Miguel Andújar and Osvaldo Bido to minor league contracts. Hoy Park, the utility man, is it this time.
Park played with the Atlanta Braves at Triple-A during the entire 2023 season. Park hit for a slash line of.262/.385/.379 with the Gwinnett Stripers in 389 plate appearances, good for a 101 wRC+. This included a robust walk rate of 15.4% along with a strikeout rate of 22.1%.
In 210 PAs split between the Pirates and New York Yankees throughout his major league career, Park has a slash line of.201/.291/.346 with a 73 wRC+, a 10.5% walk rate, and a 25.2% strikeout rate. In 209 PAs with the Pirates, he has a slash line of.202/.293/.348; he also has a 74 wRC+, a 10.5% walk rate, and a 25.4% strikeout rate.
Park has played every position on the field during his MLB career. He has filled in at shortstop, second base, third base, and all outfield positions. However, he has had quite the adventure throughout his time in the outfield—at least with the Pirates.
With the A’s, hopefully, Park may achieve success. We send him our warmest wishes for success in his new venture. Hopefully, he may become a valuable member of Oakland’s MLB team and contribute to the team in 2024.
