Wilson was selected by the Steelers with the 98th overall choice in the NFL Draft of 2024. Before being selected by the Steelers, Wilson had already established connections with the Pittsburgh region because his older brother, Bryse, threw for the Pirates in 2021 and 2022.
Although Wilson’s contract’s specifics are currently unknown, Over The Cap calculated that a four-year agreement in that position would be valued around $x million, including a $x signing bonus.
Wilson played for NC State for five years, with 2023 being his best statistical year. Wilson led the Wolfpack with 138 total tackles, six sacks, three interceptions, six passes defended, one forced fumble, and one defensive score in his final year in college. Wilson also took home the Butkus Award for best linebacker in the country and the Chuck Bednarik Award for best defender in the nation.
Wilson’s extensive injury history is the reason the Steelers were able to select such a highly-regarded talent all the way down to pick No. 98. Wilson had to battle with shoulder and knee issues during his career, as well as some concussion-related inquiries. Wilson has had around 10 surgeries since graduating from high school, including numerous procedures on his right knee and both shoulders. Ian Rappaport revealed during the draft that Wilson does not have an ACL in one of his knees.
