Earlier today it was announced that New York Yankees Vs San Diego Padres Match Scheduled For 25th May Is Postponed Due To In an effort to maximize their pitching staff, the New York Yankees have recently been active in reorganizing their bullpen and making deliberate personnel changes.
They welcomed back veteran Tommy Kahnle on Wednesday, who had been out for several months due to a shoulder ailment, and optioned Clayton Andrews back to Triple-A Scranton. Kahnle made an early impression by pitching a perfect inning in Wednesday’s win, demonstrating his readiness to play a major league role.
On Thursday, the Yankees made yet another roster move when they promoted former Tampa Bay pitching prospect Colby White to Double-A Somerset from the main league roster. White, who was held on hand as a backup in case of emergencies, will now concentrate on improving in Double-A, where he has struggled this season, registering a 27.00 ERA in just 0.2 innings.
White previously played for three years in the minor league system of Tampa Bay, where he excelled in 2023 at their Double-A affiliate, recording a perfect ERA over 6.2 innings. White, who is well-known for his propensity to strike out batters, struck out 11.74 batters per nine innings this season with Tampa’s Triple-A squad over 7.2 innings prior to the Yankees claiming him. White can strike out batters, but he has struggled to manage walks and control runners on base. These are issues he needs to work on if he wants a longer-term position in the major leagues.
The Yankees are hopeful that Lou Trivino and Scott Effross will return as the summer deadline draws near, adding to their bullpen’s strength, which has been strong even in the absence of household names. Pitching coach Matt Blake has done a fantastic job of helping the Yankees find and develop underappreciated talent, which has allowed them to keep a competitive bullpen at a low cost.
The Yankees will keep an eye on White’s development in Double-A as they continue to hone their pitching tactics and watch for possible mid-season additions to make sure their bullpen stays among the best in baseball.
