Before Opening Day, Hal Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees, left the door open to possible additions, maybe even large ones.
In a statement to the media on Thursday, General Manager Brian Cashman stated that he was amenable to any trade that would help the team.
Even though the Yankees are past the luxury tax, he stated the team is still looking to improve, even if he would not comment on any specific free agents.
By acknowledging that the depth of the team’s starting rotation is “somewhat concerning,” Steinbrenner only served to fuel the rumours.
As long as people like Blake Snell are available, these remarks are significant.
Throughout the majority of the offseason, Snell has been connected to the Yankees, but they have not been prepared to provide the reigning NL Cy Young winner the kind of long-term deal he is seeking.
According to recent sources, Snell may still be taken into consideration by the Yankees if he agrees to a short-term contract.
Starting pitching appears to be the most important position the Yankees would like to improve if they decide to make another move.
