In the battle for the coveted No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, the New Orleans Pelicans (48-32) defeated the Sacramento Kings (45-35) 135-123 to preserve their one-game advantage over the Suns.

In spite of the defeat, Sacramento is now two games behind the Suns (47-33) and is tied for eighth place with the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, all of whom have 45-35 records.

With only two games remaining for these clubs in the regular season—the Suns owning the seventh spot, among others—the playoff situation is still hotly fought.

The Suns and Kings are scheduled to play in Sacramento tomorrow. Phoenix’s victory would guarantee their spot in either the No. 7 or No.
