Reporter Jared Tims of TalkinHalos for the Los Angeles Angels reports that veteran MLB shortstop Andrelton Simmons announced his retirement this week. After 11 MLB seasons and 34 years of age, Simmons lays up his cleats.
Four times a recipient of the Gold Glove Award, Simmons was among the brightest and greatest defenders of his generation. After being traded to the Angels, he won two more with them in 2017 and 2018 after starting his MLB career with the Atlanta Braves in 2013 and 2014.
Prior to being selected earlier this year by the Mumbai Cobras of the newly formed Baseball United league, Simmons spent his final two Major League Baseball seasons with the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago Cubs.
Over the course of 1,225 MLB games, right-handed hitter Simmons concludes his career as a.263 batter. As he grew older, multiple ankle and shoulder problems caused Simmons, who had once finished eight places in the AL MVP vote, to lose effectiveness. Nonetheless, his career highlights video will endure indefinitely.
