Marcus Stroman was the largest free agent signing the New York Yankees made to bolster their pitching staff.
The former All-Star is adjusting to life in the clubhouse and is coming off of his greatest performance of the spring, which occurred on Saturday against Baltimore.
Adjustment is usually necessary when joining a new team. There is greater significance to joining the team that is most well-known.
The right-hander is settling in well so far, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and he can’t wait to pitch at Yankee Stadium in the near future.
Boone told MLB.com, “I think he’s in a place he wants to be.” He’s blended well in with our clubhouse, I believe. I believe he is at ease. I believe he is content. I believe he is eager to play on the biggest baseball stages.”
In his second spring start against Baltimore, Stroman tossed four scoreless innings in a commanding performance. He didn’t allow a walk, gave up two singles, and struck out three.
That was a fantastic comeback from his first appearance against Philadelphia, where he gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings.
“I believe that as a human, I’m just at ease in my own skin. “I have complete faith in my identity,” Stroman declared. “I approach the mound with great confidence, having put in a great deal of work throughout my life.”
With a 2026 option that Stroman can exercise if he pitches 140 innings in 2015, the Yankees signed him to a two-year, $37 million contract.
Stroman is familiar with New York. Before joining the Cubs, he was a player with the Mets from 2019 to 21.
