Due to an upper-body ailment, Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand will not play in Sunday’s Game 4 of their Eastern Conference second-round series against the visiting Florida Panthers.
In the opening frame of the Panthers’ 6-2 triumph in Game 3, Florida’s Sam Bennett gave forward Marchand a heavy check. Marchand skated for the Bruins, who are now down 2-1 in the best-of-seven series, for 10:51 of the game’s duration through two quarters.
Marchand, 36, was not present for Saturday’s practice. In his ten playoff games with Boston, he has the highest team totals in assists (seven) and points (10).
Jim Montgomery, the coach of the Boston Bruins, would not say if Marchand had a concussion from the incident.
“It can be (galvanizing); it has been and it should be tonight with who our captain is,” Montgomery stated.
Marchand finished the season with 67 points (29 goals, 38 assists) in 82 games. In 1,029 career games since the Bruins selected him in the third round of the 2006 NHL Draft, he has 929 points (401 goals, 528 assists).
