Kliff Kingsbury might soon relocate to Chicago……..

According to reports, the Bears want to sign the coach in order to appease Caleb Williams, who could be the team’s first choice.

“Don’t call it a comeback, I’ve been here for years,” someone once said. However, Kliff Kingsbury, the former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, may make a surprise comeback to the NFL very soon. Caleb Williams, the expected No. 1 pick, has a strong desire for Kingsbury, which is why the Chicago Bears are intrigued in him, as reported by Adam Schefter on Thursday.

Whatever you want to call it, I can recognise a setup when one is made. Clearly, the goal is to give Williams comfort in the event that the Bears choose him first overall in the April selection. Matt Eberflus may as well pack his bags if the Bears decide to hire Kingsbury. At the next level, the quarterback for the “franchise” of the future chose his own head coach.

This drama is seen from a mile away. Apart from the fan base, no one is criticising Chicago for taking the necessary action, yet this play is obviously fake. Although Kingsbury had an 11-win season in Arizona, his job as offensive coordinator quickly collapsed during his final season with the Cardinals.

Many were taken aback when Kingsbury, fresh off a lacklustre spell at Texas Tech, was hired by the Cardinals. In Kingsbury’s six years in Lubbock, the Red Raiders did make it to three bowl games, but they just twice finished above.500. It was strange to coach Kingsbury to the Cardinals, even after he had coached Patrick Mahomes in college.

Returning to college for a couple years after Kingsbury left Arizona in January of last year seemed like a sensible move, in whatever capacity. It seemed like we wouldn’t even hear about Kingsbury in NFL circles for a time after the way things ended in the league so suddenly. Insert the Bears, who coincidentally have QB Kingsbury as the first overall selection.

After a dismal career at Texas Tech, many were surprised to learn that Kingsbury had been hired by the Cardinals. Only twice in Kingsbury’s six years in Lubbock did the Red Raiders finish above.500, despite making it to three bowl games. Kingsbury to the Cardinals felt like a leap, even after coaching Patrick Mahomes in college.

After Kingsbury left Arizona in January of last year, returning for a few years to the collegiate ranks made sense, whatever role he would play. It seemed unlikely that we would hear anything more about Kingsbury in NFL circles for some time given how suddenly things ended in the league. With quarterback Kingsbury as the No. 1 choice, insert the Bears.
